Spectacular moments at the Venice Hospitality Challenge

21 October 2025 | Events

Last Saturday, the Y8 Calabash proudly took part for the first time in the 12th edition of the Venice Hospitality Challenge – the Grand Prix of the City of Venice. This unforgettable sailing event brought together Maxi Yachts and their experienced crews, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice.

The regatta was excellently organized by the Yacht Club Venezia, providing a seamless and professional experience for all participants – both on the water and throughout the land-based program.

Michael Schmid described it as “one of the most spectacular experiences of my life.” The race presented unique challenges — from the narrow canals and shifting tides to moments of very light wind at the start. In addition, all yachts had to navigate through heavy local boat traffic, adding yet another exciting dimension to the competition. A particularly magical moment came when dolphins appeared in the lagoon, delighting everyone on board.

Beyond the competition, what stood out most was the unique atmosphere of sailing in the heart of one of the world’s most iconic cities — a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Just a week before Venice, the Y8 Calabash made her debut at the Barcolana in Trieste, the world’s largest regatta – a thrilling prelude that perfectly set the stage for Venice.
