Strong debut at Ibiza JoySail: Y9 Bella takes second in class

Second place in Cruising 2, victory in the Corinthian division and an impressive performance against significantly larger yachts: the Y9 Bella celebrated a highly successful debut at the 2026 Ibiza JoySail.

Held from 17 to 20 September in the waters around Ibiza and Formentera, the invitation-only superyacht regatta brought together an international fleet for a demanding week of coastal racing.

The weather set the tone from the outset. The first day proved particularly challenging as several low-pressure systems passed through the area. The fleet subsequently completed three races in distinctly different conditions. The courses took the yachts around Formentera, past the iconic rock of Es Vedrà and, on the final day, along a 16-nautical-mile course off the coast of Ibiza.

For Bella and her crew, every race presented a new tactical challenge. Frequent changes in wind direction and pressure made it difficult to identify the favoured side of the course. Close observation of the conditions, clear communication and quick decisions were therefore essential.

As one of the two smallest yachts in the fleet, the 90-foot Y9 delivered a particularly convincing performance. Bella proved exceptionally fast on the reaching legs and was able to hold her own against considerably larger yachts. Her combination of speed, balance and easy handling enabled the crew to react efficiently to the changing conditions.

The final result reflected this consistent performance: Bella finished second overall in the highly competitive Cruising 2 class and also secured victory in the Corinthian division.

This result shows what the Y9 is capable of. Bella was fast across the entire course and particularly impressive on the reaching legs, where we were able to compete with yachts much larger than ourselves. The constantly changing wind made the racing tactically demanding, but the entire team remained focused and adapted exceptionally well to every new situation. Everyone on board contributed to this success – and, most importantly, we had a fantastic time together.

Beyond the trophies, the regatta was an unforgettable experience for everyone on board. The excellent programme ashore, with its many wonderful events, was another memorable part of the week. A particularly special member of the Bella team was also on board: a four-month-old baby, quite possibly the youngest participant at the entire regatta.

Focused teamwork, good decisions and an outstanding atmosphere throughout the event made Bella’s Ibiza JoySail debut a resounding success.
