There is a quote attributed to several famous thinkers: "I'm writing you a long letter because I didn't have time for a short one."

Transferred to yacht building, this means: You have to be able to operate a yacht intuitively and without much effort, so a great many details and processes have to be thought through and simplified in advance. The decades of yacht building experience of YYachts founder Michael Schmidt and his team therefore resulted in the brand's guiding principle: "The art is to reduce a yacht to the essentials without compromising on comfort." 

A yacht from YYachts should sail fast, be seaworthy and easy to understand, and give its owner pleasure. In our opinion, this is the only way to preserve the fun of the original.

Our "Keep it simple and safe" philosophy:

  • For greater safety, we limit the number of seacocks in the hull and make sure they are easy to reach.
  • We avoid superfluous and overly complicated hydraulic systems to ensure ease of operation and maintenance.
  • You can adjust a sail in an infinite number of ways. But you can also just adjust it.
  • The lighter the yacht, the lower the load on the boat. The lighter the load on the boat, the less likely it is to break.
  • Halyards and sheets are within easy reach in one central location, making all manoeuvres easy and simple.
  • The installation of two engines increases the reliability of the boat and makes mooring manoeuvres easier. Two independent alternators charge the batteries better, so the generator is sometimes not needed.
  • The electronics are based on the CZone system, which is connected to a data transponder and thus to our technicians. We can repair faults remotely - no matter where you are in the world.
  • YYachts uses sandwich composites for the construction of the internal structures. They guarantee excellent sound insulation and help eliminate vibrations on board. At the same time, the weight is significantly reduced so as not to compromise the boat's performance. 

This is just an excerpt from a list of numerous features that we at YYachts have rethought and adapted to our vision.  YYachts is synonymous with simplicity of use, functionality and aesthetic design. This does not mean minimal design, but a great attention to aesthetics, living space and functionalities on board.

We aim to build lighter and more efficient boats even in the light wind conditions typical of the Mediterranean. Fewer components on board as well as ensuring ease of operation are equally important, reducing maintenance costs and repair work to a minimum.

After all, the luxury of always being able to set sail without worrying and being self-sufficient is priceless!

Flush deck - a feeling of freedom and spaciousness

Why does a feeling of freedom and spaciousness immediately arise on board a YYacht? On the one hand - of course - this is due to the sheer size of our models. But the design of the deck also contributes greatly to this feeling. The flush deck of all YYachts underlines the sporty design as well as the shape of the carbon hull; but it also means that the entire rigging runs below deck. All lines, stretchers and sheets are virtually "invisible" led into the cockpit. There they are easily accessible for just the owner or captain at the helm. This ensures that a YYacht can basically be sailed with a very small crew or even alone.

But the design of the deck also contributes greatly to this feeling. This ensures that a YYacht can basically be sailed with a very small crew or even alone.

The flush deck also stands for safety and freedom. You can move around the yacht without worrying about having to climb steep stairs or ladders, there are no trip hazards.

The absence of large superstructures naturally also affects the view above deck and gives the owner, guests and crew a feeling of freedom, even when sitting leeward. The well-dimensioned and thoughtfully designed space in the cockpit area is also easily accessible for guests and comfortable for crews in regattas. As we at YYachts not only focus on comfort but also on performance, the flush decks create little attack surface, giving our yachts an aerodynamic and fast feeling when sailing. A flush deck will always be YYachts' first choice.

Ingenious garages

YYachts installs very special stern garages. They provide safety and more volume. And thus automatically for more luxury.

The moment when the button on the steering console is pressed and a huge hatch opens in the stern impresses every visitor to a YYacht. Since the founding of the shipyard, YYachts has chosen a very special way to accommodate the dinghies of a Y7, Y8 or Y9 on board. On all models, the garage is arranged transversely in the stern, which has several advantages:

  • The garage is always and fundamentally dry. This means that the tender and other accessories in the garage are never affected by moisture.
  • The access is comfortable and constant; even with the stern against the sheet pile wall, the hatch can be opened - in contrast to other yachts. Moreover, no one has to step onto the bathing platform of a swaying yacht to do so.
  • The tenders of a YYacht can be longer for the respective yacht size and are thus more comfortable in choppy seas.
  • The owner gains considerably more volume because the garage is installed transversely and not - as is usually the case - longitudinally. Additional square metres increase owner and guest areas.
    Crew areas on a yacht are more generous than on yachts of a similar category. The crew has more space and comfort - the motto "Happy crew, happy owner" is well served.


In addition to the tender, there is of course room for many other things in the stern garage that are not constantly needed on board; the amount of space is simply enormous for sailing yachts between 22 and 30 metres in length. The hatch is opened at the push of a button within about 30 seconds, while two hatches ensure access during sailing. A hidden system integrated into the boom finally launches the dinghy over the side and makes it available to the owner, guests and crew. The YYachts motto "Keep it simple" demonstrates this feature par excellence.

A synonym for light and efficiency

The coachroof design originates from classic wooden boats from the 1920s. 

YYachts has brought this unique element back to life and enriched it with numerous innovative modern technologies. Because the Coachroof goes far beyond pure design and successful aesthetics: it was developed to reduce CO2 emissions and increase comfort on board.

 

Less energy, more peace

The Coachroof has become an essential feature of all YYachts, flooding the saloon with light while providing a 360-degree view of the sea. Thanks to the vertical windows and special ray-reflecting glass, overheating of the saloon and cabins below deck is avoided. On summer days, the sun's rays never reach the saloon directly - unlike the traditional slanted windows on other yachts.

This feature ensures high energy efficiency because the yacht requires less energy for cooling in hot climates. This means a noticeable reduction in fuel consumption and less noise as the generators remain switched off most of the time.

The energy supply on board is well calculated and the use of large battery banks in combination with large solar panels and a hydro system allows the yacht to be used almost all day and all night without a generator.

 

Reflected and filtered

The special glasses installed in the YYachts are Parsol Grey ® glasses, which have two coatings: The outer one is able to reflect incoming sun rays so that they only penetrate through the windows in a very reduced way, thus avoiding glare.

The second layer consists of a filter system that absorbs the remaining wavelengths of light. This is made possible by the colouring that results from chemical processes during glass production. This absorbs light of certain wavelengths and filters out much of the sun's heat. Parsol Grey glass can be supplied in grey, bronze, blue, green and dark grey - depending on taste and exterior design.

 

Insulation in the north

Parsol Grey glass is also very useful in colder regions, as it retains 30% more heat inside than conventional glass, preventing energy loss, resulting in high heating system efficiency.

This patented construction system thus provides excellent thermal insulation even in the cold season, turning a YYacht into an all-season vessel suitable for almost all cruising grounds.

Carbon pioneer

Lighter, safer, faster - at YYachts, the hull, deck, interior and rigging are made of carbon fiber.

Carbon fibre is the pioneering material that will revolutionize yacht building for decades to come. It was first popular and in demand in aerospace and was then successfully used in high-performance sports such as Formula 1, the America's Cup or the Volvo Ocean Race. Today, YYachts uses this advanced material to produce lightweight yet luxurious carbon yachts that are very easy to sail.

Lighter, safer and also faster - at YYachts, the hull, deck, interior and rigging are made of carbon fibre.  This achieves very high strength and rigidity with a small weight.  Compared to conventional constructions, up to 50 percent weight is saved.

By using the vacuum injection process, even distribution in the moulds is achieved, resulting in excellent quality and precision. Another advantage is that the use of epoxy resin means that there are no styrene exhalations and thus no plastic odour below deck.

More performance, less environmental impact

The high weight savings not only improve sailing performance. YYachts' models sail at very good speed even in light winds. This means that transfers under engine can be largely dispensed with, and fuel consumption is significantly reduced. Sailing with a YYacht is one of the most sustainable ways to move on the water.

Best sailing with carbon fibre rigging

Masts and booms are also built of carbon fibre. YYachts relies on Axxon Composites, Offshore Spars and other leaders in the production of masts and booms.

The carbon fibre rigging adds to the weight savings. The real advantages, however, lie in the physics of the sail. On the one hand, a reduced top weight allows for more sail carrying capacity while the keel weight remains the same. On the other hand, the high strength allows profiles to be manufactured much thinner, thus reducing aerodynamic drag. The sails can be trimmed better and the higher stiffness preserves the profile of the sail better. As a result, yachts sail faster and more balanced.

Tried and tested on the regatta course

Incidentally, YYachts founder Michael Schmidt was already involved with carbon fibre as a material in the 1980s. Based on the "Düsselboot" and "Espada" single-toners, two highly successful regatta yachts, Schmidt's shipyard at the time built the three-quarter-toners "Blaupunkt" and "Gaviosa" entirely out of carbon. The scepticism of the scene that the yachts were extremely fragile was refuted by them. When they collided at the World Championship, nothing happened! A new technology then took its course in boat building.

What actually is carbon fibre?

Carbon fibres are fibres with a diameter of about 5 to 10 micrometres that consist mainly of carbon atoms. Carbon fibres have several advantages, including high stiffness, high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance and low thermal expansion. These properties have made them very popular in aerospace, motorsport and yachting. To make a carbon fibre, carbon atoms are bonded together in crystals that are aligned more or less parallel to the longitudinal axis of the fibre, as the crystal alignment gives the fibre a high strength-to-volume ratio - making it very strong for its size. Several thousand fibres are bundled together to form a strand that can be used as such or joined together to form a fabric.
