YYachts wins Wallpaper Design Award

The world’s most important design magazine awarded the Y7 "Bella" for her interior design. The Greifswald shipyards's order book is also exceptionally filled.

The British Wallpaper Magazine, which is considered the "bible of contemporary design" among architects, interior designers and design-oriented people worldwide, honoured YYachts with one of its prestigious design awards. In the "Cabin" category, the Y7 "Bella" came out on top, its interior design being by Norm Architects from Copenhagen. "This is a very special award," said a delighted Michael Schmidt, founder of YYachts. "We don't seem to have been completely wrong in choosing a design office which brings a fresh approach to yachting."

The extremely top-class and independent jury included, among others, the French interior designer and current "Wallpaper Designer of the Year" Pierre Yovanovitch, the Asian business tycoon Adrian Cheng, Bottega Venetas Creative Director Daniel Lee and the American singer and actress Solange Knowles.
The interior of the  Y7 "Bella" was designed by Norm Architects from Copenhagen, a newcomer in yachting. The Danish architects, who normally work more in furniture and residence design, gave the yacht a reduced design with very few colour tones.

Katrine Goldstein, Managing Director at Norm Architects, says: "We furnished this yacht according to our principle of soft minimalism. Owners and guests shall escape on board from the constant overstimulation to which our modern society is permanently exposed".

In addition to the Wallpaper Design Award, YYachts founder Michael Schmidt is also pleased about the shipyard's excellent order book. The sixth unit of the Y7, the 21.68 metre long entry-level model, has now been sold, and the fourth unit of the 23.99 metre long Y8. Also under construction is a 30-metre custom yacht that YYachts is building for an American customer. Schmidt: "Our principle of creating luxurious yet easy-to-operate yachts that also sail fast is being taken up by more and more customers. Very soon we will present another model, the Y9, to the market".
